Brian Corey Announces Run for South Miami Commission

Business owner and South Miami resident Brian Corey announced today he will run for the open South Miami Commission seat. He currently sits on the South Miami Planning Board and is a regular participant at Commission meetings. According to Corey, “My years of involvement in the city and time serving on the Planning Board has convinced me that I’m ready to do more; I feel the Commission seat would allow me to do that.”

Brian feels he’s an excellent fit for the position. He has positive and established relationships with the current Commissioners as well as a past working relationship with Mayor Sally Phillips from time shared on the Planning Board. Although Brian only officially serves on the Planning Board, he’s worked with Parks & Recreation as well as other boards on projects he supports. “I’ve developed a good working knowledge of the city: Planning and Zoning, Parks and Recreation, Budget planning, and more. I know I can work with the Commission and the Mayor to build consensus on things that matter to South Miamians. I’m ready to bring my experience in the city and in business to further improve South Miami.”

Born right in South Miami Hospital, Brian grew up in the area, spending time at the Bakery Center (now The Shops at Sunset) with his four siblings and attending the YMCA at South Miami Park. While attending Christopher Columbus High School, Brian developed an interest in Advertising and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Hiram College in Northeastern Ohio before returning to Miami. In 2017, Brian married his wife Casey, a state attorney and artist, and is the proud father of a 3-year-old daughter and one year-old son.

Brian Corey is the co-owner of Corey Advertising, a digital marketing and advertising firm located near Downtown South Miami. The company, which was formed in 2011, serves local businesses by helping them compete with big national brands in the digital space. “I started the business with my brother and nothing more than a $300 credit card limit. I’m very proud of the successful enterprise and sound local employer it has become today.”

The special election will occur Tues., April 20th for the seat left vacant by the late Commissioner Bob Welsh. Brian stated about the open seat, “Commissioner Welsh’s sudden death shook our community and I think anyone seeking this position knows we owe it to his legacy to stanchly support green spaces and finish the good work he started.”
